About Us

Mission Statement

We are a student-led initiative, based in Copenhagen, critically engaging with global health through a decolonial lens.  Our work focuses on creating a space for reflection, discussion, and learning, about existing structures in global health.  Through awareness-raising and resource-sharing, we seek to challenge dominant narratives and promote more equitable approaches. We are still in the middle of our learning process—we do not claim expertise but approach this work with curiosity, and a commitment to growth. With critical allyship at the core of our work, we recognize the need for a decolonial transformation in global health.

Our Story

As a field, Global Health has the wonderful intention to improve global wellbeing and health. However, the current structure of the field builds upon colonial legacies and upholds existing power imbalances and inequalities.

As students, we have become more and more angry with how the field we practice is infiltrated by power abuse, neocolonial pressures and performative actions. Decolonisation has become a buzzword; through elite capture, the word has become co-opted to something performative and trendy, instead of something that creates radical change in the hegemonic power hierarchies we currently participate in. â€‹

Why does Global Health education continue to operate within these harmful frameworks? Why has the field resisted the changes that will bring about equity?

We as new generation of Global Health students want to do better.
We want to learn how to build truly equitable partnerships and practice a decolonial global health. We want to see this mirrored into our future employment opportunities, as critically written about in our course literature.

This platform is also a call for any Global Health student or professional  to remain active.

You have the right to protest your own courses, your own university, your own education.

In solidarity,

Decolonizing Global Health, by Copenhagen Youth
